Starlight Natural Coals

To start out, the coals are smaller than most brands that I've used. Not saying I like the big fat cubes that Medwahk produces, but I mean c'mon. These coals have more cons than pros in my opinion...and I'm using them right now.

Some things that bother me with these coals are:

  • They burn through the bowl to quickly or that they burn out so fast

  • They give off an odd taste

  • They leave behind grey "ashes" rather than brown like most brands I've seen

  • They burn up if left cooking to long

The fact that they burn the bowl or go out so quickly upsets me, and at the same time ruins the brand for me. Personally I prefer something that would cook the bowl evenly and for a longer period of time. I can't put a time frame on these particular coals because it constantly changes on me.

The "odd taste" is kind of hard to describe. Normally coals won't "ruin" the flavor for me. To me, it ruins the session. I prefer something that won't change the taste of my shisha, unless its to better the taste. It blands out the flavor causing me to taste it less, and generally that isn't something that I, nor people I know, like to happen.

When it comes down to the grey "ashes", I'm not really sure what to say about that. Some brands I've used leave behind brownish colored "ashes". They remind me of quick lites when I see they grey and quick lites just give me headaches in general. Sometimes they're good, ex. when you're outdoors or traveling and have no way of cooking up some naturals. Other than that...just no, sorry.

Rating: 5/10

Comments: I give these coals 5/10 because in my opinion, they have a lot of improving to do before I would refer them to a new smoker.
